Certainly! Tapping is actually quite simple to do. Here are few tips to follow for getting the most out of your Tapping experience:
- Try to set aside around 15 minutes each day to listen to a tapping meditation. Just like exercise, consistency gets better results than trying to change everything all at once.
- If you are embarrassed or uncomfortable to tap in front of others, find someplace where you can be alone. Pro tip: tapping while in the bathroom works great! ;)
- You can tap with your eyes either open or closed, whichever you feel better connects you to the issue you're working on.
- Tap gently on the meridian points. Harder or more forceful tapping does not increase its effectiveness and only leaves you with sore spots.
- Since the body's meridian system is symmetrical, you can tap with the left hand, the right hand, or both hands at once on either side of the body.
- Sometimes, you may feel tired after tapping away a source of stress or releasing an emotional blockage. It's quite common, actually. Take a nap, or get a good night's rest to allow your body to rebalance itself.
- Speaking out loud while tapping through the points works best because it gives a voice to our inner thoughts, making them tangible and real. For times when it isn't possible, just focussing on the thoughts or emotions while tapping can also be effective.
- Don't worry about saying the "right" words. Not every tapping meditation may relate to your unique issue or situation as you follow along. Feel free to change the words to help you connect with your own specific memories and emotions while tapping.
- If a specific issue, emotion, or memory is too intense for you to tap on, go back one layer and tap on an aspect that you feel safer addressing. Tapping is like peeling an onion. You can't get to the core without peeling away the outer layers first.
- Be gentle and forgiving with yourself throughout the tapping process. Many of our emotional issues are complex, and this may even be the first time you've consciously chosen to look at them.
